Halloween or Christmas?
Just wondering... we went to friends for supper, when we got to their house it was raining.
When we left to come home at 10:00pm... it had SNOWED!
Yes, those ARE skeletons and a ghost hanging up outside on our porch, we also have a big spider's web of tarantulas too, but the snow is blocking them!
Hannah later accidentally crushed her little snowman, so she came over to check up on Josh's 2 snow guys... poor little bear being eaten by the Jack 'o Frosty!
Can you say CALVIN AND HOBBS HERE?
Yes, they ended up going to bed well past 11:00pm but how often do you get perfect packing snow the day BEFORE HALLOWEEN?

Random Summer/Back to School photos and Jman's 9th Birthday
WOW this summer just FLEW BY!! We did a TON of stuff, and also just chilled out at home a lot. And now we are BACK TO SCHOOL with a vengeance, caught up in school fun (see ASLA's Blog and look for photos of Josh (gr 4) and Hannah (gr1)) as well as Tae Kwon Do for J&H, Saturday Mandarin school for H, swimming for J&H, Cubs for J, Kung Foo for H, phew! In case you are wondering, H has asked for a year to do Kung Foo at Mandarin School, so this year we started after her Sat language school is over. This girl Loves Martial Arts!
We went to an amazing cottage, learned how to fish and the kids fell in love with fishing. We also went to Mont Cascades Water Park in Quebec, visited a Wendat Iroquoin Village and dug for animal bones and pottery shards, made paper boats to float on the Ottawa river, Gramma and Grampa's visit was also a highlight!
Jman turned 9 this Sept as well, he had a blast with his friends at Laser Quest.
The photos will probably come up all mixed up, so have fun figuring out what is what. 'tira! Dava
OK - the server doesn't want to upload any photos... I'll try again Tues as tomorrow I'm off to Montreal for work, the David Suzuki talk in the evening! Good Night!

Summer Fun 2010
Summer is HERE, it is HOT, we have no Air Conditioning! Good thing we have a basement to cool off in!
First was Canada Day Fun!
First was Canada Day Fun!
Play House - Robin has been busy building a super cool playhouse for the kids! Can you say Super Dad? We are all VERY Impressed! It now has walls and Robin has started the roof. I'll get updated photos soon!
FOI Summer Picnic - Every summer our Adoption Agency (Family Outreach International) hosts a day out for their families. People sometimes come back from all over Canada to meet up with their travel groups and see how fast all the kids are growing. We are lucky that we travelled with 2 familes from Ottawa, so we see them a few times a year already. Plus we've made friends with other familes too. One family just came back with their DiDi (little brother). A very sweet, darling 2 yr old boy. Their daughter is the same age as Hannah, but the 2 of them are too shy to play together. Man, Robin and I both got very broody watching their new son. Makes us want to travel again for a little boy too. OK brooding over :0) No more adoption plans in the near or far future right now! Two is more than enough at the moment!
Wild Raspberries - we have an AWESOME wild raspberry patch near our house. We went out last night and picked a large bowl. Josh and Hannah ate more than what went into the bowl... Can I say Hannah LOVES raspberries? hahaha She was also having fun squishing the overripe ones all over the place... They ate all the berries today, first thing was cheerios with raspberries for breakfast.
My Awesome Kids - you can't see it but Josh has a big raspberry in his teeth. Are they goofey or what? And yes, for the most part they get along really well... except when they are annoying and fighting with eachother... ahh sibling love ;-)
Random Summer Photos - a cool bug we found. It's in the STINK BUG FAMILY

Spring. School's over. Summer Begins
Wow, time is FLYING by! Racing everyday, getting to school, work, sports and fun!
This spring Hannah and Josh started Tae Kwon Do and Josh tested for his yellow belt this weekend and got it!
Hannah graduated from Senior Kindergarten and will be starting Grade ONE in Sept! Yikes!!
Josh finished Grade 3 as well. Great show kids!
Since we live in the country, there are a TON of farms on our doorsteps. Every year we pick lots of local and wild fruit to eat, and make into jam. YUM! We start out with strawberries, of course. We also do raspberries, blueberries and this year we'll also do apples. Hannah and I have also gone wild raspberry picking just down the road and gathered a large bowl full. What a treat for Cherrios in the morning, luckily the season has just started and we can't wait to get back to our secret patch. :0)
What else has gone on since April.... ??? Spring RAIN!
And who can forget.... THE WORLD CUP!!! Uncle James and Aunt Jenny sent AWESOME ENGLAND gear to wear!! We also got noise makers, face paints, clappers, England Flag and England Beach Ball! We were all set to watch the Beautiful Game! We even went to school on our last Dress Down Day in our new England Jerseys!! (shhh... when this photo was taken, we didn't know how it would end... Bad Bad FIFA and that terrible disallowed goal!!! grrrr... we are still fuming in our house!!!) (shhhhhhh... we don't mention team Germany at all..... shhhh!!!!)
Yes, we have slippers on our heads... don't ask.....
But that hasn't stopped us from playing soccer for fun. I'll get some of J-man soon, but here is Hannah thoroughly enjoying her soccer Tuesdays! She LOVES this game. So does Josh... I think we are Footie Mad in the Green House!

Josh and Dava meet Jane Goodall
It's been a busy spring around these parts!
Josh and I attended a Jane Goodall book lecture and got to meet her afterward and have her sign her new book! Josh's school has a Jane Goodall "Roots and Shoots" chapter, plus one of the kid's parents in Hannah's class (Aidan) work for the Writers Festival, which sponsored the talk. At the end of the lecture the kids from Academy St-Laurent all got to go up on stage with their star Science teacher who runs the chapter! Besides meeting Jane, the highlight of the evening for Josh was getting to ask Jane a QUESTION!
After her talk she asked the audience for questions. We'd been discussing Jane's research and importance at home (she's such an amazing role model!) and he had some questions already he wanted answers too. SO when they said, "Does anyone have a question?" Josh was so excited! ME he said!
We were lucky to be sitting near the front (with the school, as we were special guests). When they brought the mic over he started talking then suddenly got shy, so he made ME ask the question! There was over 1000 people there!! It was in an BIG old church!! SO I said, "Hi, we've been talking about you at suppers and in the car over here and my son would like to know, when you were studying the chimpanzees, how did you come to know that they sounds and gestures they made really DID mean what you thought they did?" Not a bad question for an 8 yr old! (he had more questions, but that was the one that got asked)
She was so genuine and approachable. She spoke right to Josh and made Aidan's dad get up on stage and pretend to be a chimp so she could demonstrate the process of observing and making notes of what the chimps did before and after the behaviour, and that it was a long process you did over and over. Josh was so inspired after the talk to do something similar, and be sure to OBSERVE nature! I thought the talk would be very long for him (It started at 8pm on a Monday, in Ottawa, we got home at 11pm by the time it was over and we drove home) But she spoke in such a plain, simple manner, used humour and funny anecdotes that everyone was left wanting more and couldn't believe the time went so quickly!
A night to never forget!
